SAGE Quintessence

MANUAL MASSAGE

Hardwood is the perfect material for any level manual massage. You can apply moderate pressure with minimal effort to perform a deep-tissue massage or use a light hand to manipulate soft-tissue and promote relaxation. SAGE Quintessential wooden combs are suitable for self-massage as well as for massaging others. Physical stimulation from manual massage helps to stimulate blood flow, boost circulation, and eliminate toxin build-up in tissue. It may also ease pain, stress, anxiety, and digestive disorders while activating the vagus nerve - eliciting a relaxation response that reduces cortisol (stress hormone) levels etc.

Lymphatic Dredging (Gentle)

The Lymphatic system is the circulatory system of the immune system and plays a significant role in fighting infection and maintaining immunity. It is a one-way circulatory system that depends on muscle contractions to help move fluid unidirectionally to the neck area - to be emptied into the subclavian vein. Lymph is a clear fluid that moves through arteries and tissue to clean them of waste and bacteria before flushing them through the lymphatic system. Sometimes, the lymphatic system can become damaged leading to Lymphedema.

Lymphatic drainage is a manual massage technique that works on the lymphatic system - stimulating it to move lymphatic fluid to lymph nodes. Slow, gentle, rhythmic massage is intended to mimic muscle contractions - boosting lymphatic circulation. The main function of this massage is to improve trapped lymph that causes water retention, swelling and inflammation.

Tips When Draining Llymphatic Fluid –

  • Deep belly breathing acts like a pump (contracting the largest lymph vessel in the body; the thoracic duct) which helps move lymphatic fluid through the vessels and lymph nodes. Take slow, deep breaths into the belly, and slowly sigh the air out through the mouth.
  • Before massage, prepare lymph nodes to bring in more fluid.
  • Make sure to apply GENTLE pressure – only effect fluid layer under the skin. Don’t press hard enough to feel muscles.
  • Slow, light strokes upwards towards lymph nodes are ideal
  • Massage in one direction towards lymph nodes, not in circular motions
  • Drink extra fluids (few glasses of water) after each massage, to help flush the body
  • No need to use any oils – the intention is to stretch the skin

Please Note : We do not recommend directly working swollen lymph nodes, try working nearby areas instead. Detox symptoms may persist after treatment as toxins are quickly released from the body. Not every form of manual massage is suitable for everyone. If you have any health concerns, consult your doctor before trying a new treatment. (Full DISCLAIMER below).

Myofascial Release (Trigger Point Therapy)

Fascia used to be thought of as passive tissue however it is now perceived as a dynamic stretch of pliable, fibrous connective tissue that surrounds muscles, vessels, and nerves. The main component of fascia is collagen - a malleable fluid that allows fascia to behave flexibly and pain-free when healthy. Fascia holds muscles together thus allowing them to contract and stretch. When unhealthy, fascia can be clumpy and tight thus knots in muscles may result. When there’s a “knot” in the muscle, this means there are many nearby segments of muscle fibres that are stuck in a contracted state. In this state, blood flow is restricted, and oxygen cannot reach the muscle. There are many benefits that may result from keeping fascia healthy including increased blood flow, reduced appearance of cellulite, improved body symmetry and posture, improved sports performance, and faster exercise recovery.

Myofascial Release (also known as trigger point therapy) is a form of manual therapy that works on areas of tight muscle fibres that may occur after overuse or injury. (‘Myo’ meaning muscles & ‘fascial’ standing for fascia) Myofascial Release uses deep, gentle sustained pressure to increase blood and oxygen circulation to tissue, improve mobility of connective tissue and relax contracted muscles.
